CPAP Therapy

CPAP is still the cornerstone medical treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This treatment entails the utilization of a small mask that fits over the nose and is held in place by several head straps. Pressurized air is then administered to the mask through a small pump which inflates the airway to prevent its collapse. These devices cost between $1,000 and $3,500.   The more expensive machines are prescribed, when patients are unable to tolerate higher pressures needed to keep the airway open. However, most patients do not need the more expensive machines.  Long-term use of the CPAP devices have been demonstrated to significantly lower the death rate associated with complications of sleep apnea.
