Lidocaine is a local anesthetic used for many purposes. We have recommended that Lidocaine be placed in your nose following specific recommendations below. You are being provided 5 cc of 4% Lidocaine solution to be used at the onset of severe headaches that are primarily localized to the face or top of the head.
Lie down on your back on a flat surface. A small pillow may be used to help support your neck
Bend your head backwards and turn it to the same side as the headache is occurring. If you have arthritis of the neck, this process should be performed carefully
Over a thirty second period, drip up to 2 1/2 eyedroppers full of Lidocaine into the nostril. The total amount delivered would be 1/2 cc of the Lidocaine solution. If your headache is located on both sides of your head, perform the same maneuver on the other side as well. If you use the spray bottle method, use two sprays in each nostril and following the preceding directions regarding head movement
Do not use Lidocaine solution more than three time weekly. If the Lidocaine dramatically educes your headaches on multiple occasions, it may be possible to permanently deaden the pain nerve in the back of the nose. In this instance, you would need to be referred to an ENT physician who has experience with this procedure |
