Peak flow monitoring is a time-consuming procedure when appropriately used to evaluate an individual's workplace. To ensure that the results are interpretable, specific guidelines must be followed, These are listed below.
Peak flow rates should be monitored every 2 hours when you are awake. When possible, adherence to a specific schedule would assist in evaluation, but this is often not possible, It is understandable that circumstances may prevent you from performing every test at the appropriate time, but attempt to be as persistent as you can.
Record the best of 3 readings for each test, The results of the best 2 tests should be within 5 - 10% of each other. If not, repeat several more readings until you are assured that the best possible results have been obtained.
Keep a running log for at least 2 weeks, including time off and weekends, There may be cases where readings have to be repeated or extended for greater than 2 weeks.
We have provided a chart to assist you in monitoring the time of day, how many times per week you measure your readings, and your peak flow reading consistently.
